King Creations called in Ryan Grantom
to see what he is up to this season. Like always, Ryan had time
for a little question and answer segment. Here is what he had to
say: |
Tell us about your ride with Hooters/Tamer/Moto
XXX:
RG: Tamer Racing, who I rode
for last season, got together with Mock Racing. They formed a team
and got Moto XXX along. Mock Racing brought the Hooters end of the
deal, so it turned out Hooters/Tamer/Moto XXX.
Did you know what bikes you would be riding?
RG: Haha. No, just about every
brand was thrown around; it changed many times. We went from Kawasaki
to Honda right at the end.

Walk us through Anahiem and the testing
that lead up to the race:
RG: Started practicing SX on
January 1st when I got my bikes. I rode three times before A1. I
did not feel prepared due to the lack of practice and testing on
the bike. Mentally, I felt fine, I just did not get to test the
suspension, etc. I get to A1, and its muddy. It was wierd because
I ended up being one of the only people jumping one of the triples
all the way until the night program. I thought everyone else was
jumping it, so I did it. I almost crashed, so I quit jumping it.
Haha. Everyone was crashing because it was so muddy, so I thought
I had it, but Kiniry passed me on the last lap for the last spot.
I ended up with the Medic Card in the LCQ.
Im sure you knew what you needed to do the
next weekend, what happened after A1?
RG: Yeah, I felt the bike needed some changes.
We did some suspension testing with Race Tech after A1, and the
bike felt a lot better. I went to Phoenix feeling good. I came
up a little short on the last jump of a rythem section. There
was a sharp corner right after it, and I ended up going over the
berm landing on my side. I got up, knowing that something felt
wierd, but I thought I was fine. I reliazed the opposite when
I went to pick my bike up. EMS confirmed my collar bone was broke.

Where you wearing a Leatt brace?
RG: Yes, I think the brace caused the break,
but I will continue to wear one.
Whats the plan for your return?
RG: I am racing Houston SX this
weekend. I have rode SX twice this past week, and feel about the
same as I did going into A1. I have lost about 15 lbs in one week.
My cardio feels good, but I lost some upper body strength. I expect
to make the night program and feel I should make the main.
A little off race topic, but are you still
attending Sam Houston State?
RG: Yeah, I am taking 12 hours;
I go Tuesday and Thursday.
Who would you like to thank?
RG: Hooters, Tamer Racing, Moto
XXX, Mock Racing, Superfly, Race Tech, Oneal, Scott, Vortex, Sidi,
Texans BBQ.
Thanks, and we will see you this weekend.
RG: Ok, thank you. |
